Today, the Big Lottery Fund, a non-government organisation which is engaged with the distribution of the National Lottery-based funds for good causes, revealed that Scottish residents would see a massive funding boost in 2018.
As revealed by the Fund, £6,221,069 of good cause funding would be granted by the National Lottery to more than twenty local community groups, with the money providing local residents with the opportunity to learn and share new skills.
The Chairwoman of the Big Lottery Fund Scotland, Maureen McGinn, commented on the announcement, saying that great things could be expected to happen in local communities thanks to the massive funding that is to be received by the National Lottery. According to Ms. McGinn, the latest financial injection of more than £6 million came to illustrate the large number of opportunities that Scottish people could have for learning and sharing experience and skills.
Over £6 Million to Be Distributed to Communities
Currently, under the existing legislation and regulatory rules, lotteries in the UK could be run only to raise funds for good causes. For the time being, no lotteries can be run for private or commercial gain on the territory of the country.
As mentioned above, the Big Lottery Fund revealed today that more than £6 million would be distributed to a total of 23 community groups in many parts of the UK. The funds raised by the National Lottery would be used to boost local residents’ confidence, creativity and self-esteem. The organisation also published the full list of awards that are to be granted to local communities.
Some of the community groups that would be granted with a portion of the £6-million funding include Community Enterprise Ltd, Lingo Flamingo in Glasgow, Glasgow charity ANYiSO, Broadford & Strath Community Company and Ardrossan Community Association.
Currently, the Big Lottery Fund has been aimed at supporting individuals who would like to improve the quality of life in their UK communities. The Fund is responsible for distributing approximately 40% of the money raised by the UK National Lottery. Normally, the organisation invests more than £650 million annually in various education, charitable, education and environment projects.
On the other hand, the Big Lottery Fund Scotland has been helping both individuals and communities in Scotland through its five-year £250-million funding scheme and also through a National Lottery Awards scheme.
As revealed by the Fund itself, a total amount of approximately £35 billion has been raised since the official start of the UK National Lottery back in 1994. Since June 2004, the Big Lottery Fund has distributed more than £8 billion to projects in the UK that have changed the lives of millions of people. The organisation funds small local projects on a daily basis and tries to deal with big social problems such as homelessness and poor mental health.
